I was lucky enough to be a guest at the Ibanez Guitar Festival 2025 in Gutenstetten, Germany! While there Andy The Guitar Geek and me perused the museum of vintage Ibanez guitars on display and picked out the three models we’d each take home if we could…

It was an amazing experience to be up close to all these vintage Ibanez guitars in one room – the only improvement would have been the chance to actually try a few out! But we really got to see a who’s who of the best Ibanez electric guitars and basses from the past 50+ years here, which was a huge privilege.

The collection started in the 1960s, with a few proper semi-hollow garage rock looking rarities in the vein of ancient Framus, Teisco and Yamaha guitars (one model in particular was modeled after the Yamaha SA 30).

It then moved to the 1970s – when Ibanez was freely making its own versions of Gibson classics like the Les Paul, Flying V, and Firebird – and the 1980s, when neon colored Steve Vai Pia models were all the rage.

Moving into the 1990s and 2000s, you started to see more streamlined models, and a few tasty George Benson signature guitars. But things also got weirder, in the form of the crazy double neck Xiphos, and a couple of one-off NAMM Show and Frankfurt Musikmesse oddities. Designed to draw the punters’ eyes to the Ibanez booth, they surely got the job done!

In the 2010s, we’re getting more into familiar territory with the Ibanez guitars we know now, although there’s a few really exotic wood choices, and a couple of special signature models for the likes of Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Paul Gilbert.

Like I mention at the start of the video, the wonderful Dr. Dan from Ibanez Germany took the Thomann video crew round the entire collection in detail. Once that video is online, I will link it right here: STILL WAITING ;)

I hope you enjoy this little tour of the Ibanez museum! Do you agree with the choices Andy and I made? Let me know which guitar was your favorite in the comments!
