The raspy, caustic overdriven guitar is cranked just so slightly, around breakup, no much distortion. Inspired by the abrasive guitar sound of AC/DC 'Powerage' album, which is their best sound imo.
Nowadays everybody cranking their guitars pretty much into the steady fuzz where guitars mostly sound the same.
Whereas the juice and all the difference lies in the breakup zone of the overdrive circuit.

Turns out it's pretty hard to find an overdrive that won't steal your low end and won't be mushy in the mix. You will never believe what I'm using for the basic overdrive here.
