Filmmaker Syed Wahiduzzaman Diamond, who is known for making films addressing historical, social and contemporary issues, has attempted to explore the Rohingya crisis and its impact on Bangladesh in his upcoming film The Rohingya.
The film will be released in cinemas across the country on October 21. The Rohingya is the fifth film of Syed Wahiduzzaman Diamond. The film was shot in Rakhine and Cox’s Bazar in 2017. It has been produced by Shabnam Shehnaz Chowdhury.
Syed Wahiduzzaman Diamond made his silver screen directorial debut with Nacholer Rani in 2006. He later released Gangajatra in 2009, Antordhan in 2013 and Shesh Kotha in 2017. He is currently working on two more films, namely Covid-19 in Bangladesh and Dakhina Duar.
Syed Wahiduzzaman Diamond, who won National Film Award in the Best Director category for Gangajatra, spoke about the purpose of making The Rohingya, his experiences of shooting the film, his upcoming projects and more in an interview with New Age (www.newagebd.net).
