This place in the Philippines is named after 'Da King,' but more specifically - Fernando Poe Jr., 'Da King' of Philippine Movies. After the death of his father, Fernando Poe Sr., he dropped out of school to work and support his family at a very young age. At the age of 14, his acting career started with a starring role in the movie 'Anak ni Palaris.' He steadily gained popularity and more acting roles over the years, appearing in hundreds of movies where he mostly portrayed the underdog who emerges victorious, a dream for many Filipinos. But despite only being an actor, FPJ inspired millions of Filipinos not only through his movies but also in real life, and his legacy continues today through the FPJ Panday Bayanihan led by his grandson Brian Poe, which offers assistance to people affected by calamities. Today, Roosevelt Avenue and LRT-1 Roosevelt Station is now both named after Fernando Poe Jr., in honor of his contributions even after his death in 2004.
