🟢 Loudness starts from the early sound design stage, and by loudness, I don’t mean destroying the signal to create a pseudo louder volume. I mean achieving a consistent sounding lead that remains dynamic and doesn’t fade out or get lost in the mix during its quieter parts.
✅ Serum is one of the best tools for creating such leads because it has a very versatile compressor that can also be used as a limiter to control the transients and apply just enough compression to maintain consistency.
💪 To achieve this, take Serum’s compressor and set the ratio all the way to the right, where it says « Limit. » This activates the limiter mode. Set the attack to its fastest setting to catch loud transients and adjust the release to around 150ms, not too fast, not too slow just enough to control the dynamics and keep everything in order.
🤩 Finally set the threshold so that it doesn’t exceed -12dB of gain reduction.
That’s it. Enjoy
