In this video we'll talk about the Baltic Way. Well, this is not what you think, it is the name given to a protest in which people form three countries: Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania created a human chain streatching from Tallinn in Estonia all the way to Vilnius Lithuania. This protest was held against the USSR and people demanded independence for the Baltic countries, independence which was taken from them in the world war two, when USSR annexed the baltic states.

This was the Baltic Way. A human chain with a length of over 600 kilometers, spanning on 3 countries.
You see, in 1940, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia were annexed by the Soviet Union under provisions of the 1939 Molotov-Ribbentrop pact between Soviet Union and Germany.
The Baltic Way was a pro independence protest of the three Baltic countries held exactly 50 years after the pact was signed. In 1989, the communist regimes in east European countries started to fall while in the Baltic states 2 million people, representing around 25% of the Baltic countries population demanded independence from the USSR in a peaceful protest. and they gain it. Despite some serious resistance from the soviet troops, Lithuania and Estonia declared their independence on March 1990, being followed by Latvia 2 months later.
