FPV + Paraglider + Eclipse 🤯I had an incredible opportunity during the solar eclipse in October to film a paraglider sailing off the top of a desert butte with my FPV drone. Here’s the story:
We arrived to an area just outside of Goblin Valley State Park four days before the eclipse, and already almost every camp spot was taken. Luckily we found a spot. We spent the next few days enjoying the area and searching for spots to watch the show. A few days before, our plans went out the window as we realized the roads would likely be gridlocked with traffic. It wasn’t until the day before that we picked a nearby spot at random with our fingers crossed.
On the morning of, we hustled to the spot and picked out an area that looked cool. The eclipse came, we howled at the moon, and totality passed.
We were preparing to leave when suddenly a neighbor mentioned that he was going to paraglide down in a few minutes. I jumped at the opportunity and offered to chase him with my FPV drone to which he readily agreed.
Ten minutes later - as the moon was still partially obscuring the sun - he jumped. I followed his flight down lazily, circling him slowly and enjoying the color contrast of his chute against the red rock. The results blew me away.
This has to be the first ever FPV chase of a paraglider during an annular eclipse in human history. If not, I’m claiming it 😂 What do you think?
