In 1945 war-torn Berlin, Susanne returns from a concentration camp to find ex-soldier Hans living in her home. She seeks a fresh start, while he is consumed by guilt over his past. As they navigate the ruins around them, Hans fixates on avenging the crimes of his former commander. In a shattered city, both try to rebuild their lives.
