Waylon dropped the needle on "Cruisin' Down the Highway" by James Gang, and suddenly he was seventeen again, summer of '75, windows down in his Camaro.

The music transported him instantly. Outside, the modern world buzzed with anxiety, but here in his living room, surrounded by vinyl records, time stood still.

"Thunder Island" by Jay Ferguson reminded him of washing cars with his sister Kelly, singing off-key while neighbors watched. Neil Young's "Cinnamon Girl" took him back to homework forgotten on his bedroom floor, mesmerized by Crazy Horse's raw power.

"Never Been Any Reason" by Head East played as he cooked dinner. The song brought back prom night '78, parked by the lake with Jennifer Walsh, her head on his shoulder while moonlight rippled on water.

Sarah's key turned in the lock as The Brothers Johnson's "Strawberry Letter #23" filled the air. Forty-seven years of marriage, and they still swayed together to the old songs.

"Remember when we thought Ringo's solo career would be huge?" Sarah murmured as "Photograph" played.

Waylon chuckled. "We were young and optimistic."

Later, alone with Supertramp's "Take the Long Way Home," he understood why these songs mattered. They weren't just music—they were photographs in sound, preserving moments that might otherwise fade.

Boston's "Peace of Mind" had taught him contentment. The Doobie Brothers' "Another Park Another Sunday" showed him loneliness was temporary. Grand Funk's "Some Kind of Wonderful" was the soundtrack to falling in love with Sarah at the drive-in.

Each song carried the DNA of joy from a simpler time when wonder felt possible and love came easy. The seventies had given him more than music—they'd given him the soundtrack to a life well-lived.

As the music played on, bridging decades, Waylon smiled. Some things never fade away.
