This man is an expat and lived in Pakistan for a while. He met a lot of kids in need throughout his time. One girl in particular, he met her again when he visited the same village and they developed a bond that changed her life forever.
He has a daughter the same age as her. Her mother died giving birth to her. She was raised by her grandmother. They made a living by begging. He got them a house, it was rented but he paid the rents for them. He also got her new clothes. A couple years later, around 3 years, that's when her grandmother died from an illness.
The man knew the girl was affectively orphaned with no one to take care of her. So he took her in and treated her like his own daughter. He made sure she had everything she needed for school. However, her aunt came and took her one day which was understandable since not many people would trust a grown man to look after a little girl who they aren't related to. Especially a foreigner.
He was of course sad but couldn't do anything. A couple months later, the same woman came back to find him telling him that the girl is sick. He felt very sad seeing the girl so weak and unresponsive. He blamed the woman for not taking better care of her.
At the doctor, it's revealed that she was malnourished. She wasn't given enough food. After she was healed, the family agreed that he would be able to take care of her better and they let him adopt her officially. He's adopted more kids who needs help since then. But she was the first child he adopted.
They live in Pakistan and goes to school. She has a lot of siblings to play with.
