This is a Motormouth couple car review of the all-new 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV plug-in SUV. The new Outlander PHEV which is a standard 7-passenger SUV has a starting price of $39,845 USD, a price increase of $2,850 USD from the previous model which is a 5-seater. Canadian pricing has not yet been announced but the 2022 model starts at $44,198 CAD.
This Mitsubishi Outlander plug-in hybrid has a 2.4-litre 4-cylinder Atkinson Cycle gas engine, an ECVT and a combined 248 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque with standard Super All Wheel Control. It has a 20-kWh battery and gets a combined 3.6Le/100 km, 64 MPGe. The official range of the Mitsubishi Outlander is 61 km/38 miles and allows for up to 420 miles/676 km of combined electric-gas range on a single charge and a tank of fuel. In Canada the Mitsubishi Outlander standard features include, heated front seats, an 8” touchscreen, wireless Apple Carplay and wired Android Auto, 12.3” digital driver display, a heated manual driver and passenger seat, blind spot monitoring and lane departure warning. Moving up one from the base Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV model gets you a panoramic sunroof, 9” touchscreen with navigation, a power driver seat, heated steering wheel, power liftgate and a 360 camera. The next trim up of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is the SEL opens you up to more luxury, 20” wheels, quilted leather seats, driver seat memory, a power passenger seat and heated second row seats. The top Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV GT trim has a head-up display, wireless phone charger, Bose sound system and high-grade LED headlights. Add the premium package to this trim to get front massage seats and two-tone semi-aniline leather appointed seats which our test model has. With a Level 1 (120V) outlet, you will go from 0-100% in 16 hours, Level 2 (240V) 0-100% in 6 ½ hours and with a DC Fast Charger, it takes 38 minutes to charge up to 80%. The new Outlander PHEV is the only non-luxury brand plug-in hybrid to offer fast-charging. The 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV model hits dealerships in November, we'll get the opportunity to drive this new Outlander plug-in hybrid then.
