Clytie (Oceanid). Her name, spelled both Klytie and Klytia, is derived from the ancient Greek adjective klutós, meaning "glorious" or "renowned". The sunflower, in this myth, symbolizes unrequited love, devotion, and a longing gaze. The sunflower virgin myth refers to the Greek myth of Clytie, a water nymph who loved the sun god Apollo. When Apollo's affections shifted to another nymph, Clytie became consumed with grief and jealousy. As punishment, or perhaps as a way for her to eternally gaze upon him, she was transformed into a sunflower, forever turning her face towards the sun. #1980smusic #psychedelicmusic
