You may see me mention 94Q and Jazz Flavours a lot in my posts, well that was my hometown Atlanta's jazz/fusion radio program from 1978-1989, and is largely responsible for getting me into collecting this music genre. The show was hosted by Russ Davis and Cliff Smith, and the featured lots of the current releases of the time, as well as more obscure & local Atlanta artists. A friend of mine emailed me this 40 min aircheck a while back, recorded directly off-air on 94Q Jazz Flavours in late 1986. The way he recorded this tape, is he would press the record button on his tape deck, with the recording level turned down, and gradually bring it up, and then turn it back down towards the end of a selection and hit pause, so that he would not record any DJ/dialogue, just only the music...then repeat. These tapes have seen better days, but I wanted to share them anyway, as they bring back lots of great memories.
Me and my relatives recorded many tapes from 94Q as well back in the '80s, in a similar manner, and if you'd like to hear my higher quality recordings, I have a 12 hour compilation uploaded here:
