Low pass gates are one of the greatest sounds in modular -- a kind of combined filter and amplitude (volume) atttenuator. While they sound amazing on analog sounds (such as the famed "Buchla Bongo" sound), they also come to life when processing brighter FM sounds.

Here I have a DX-7-style Preen FM 2 bass sound going into a Make Noise FxDf (fixed filter) and RxMx (macro low pass gate). Reverb is from the Desmodus Versio by Noise Engineering. The FxDf splits the Preen sound into 6 different filter bands and the RxMx chooses which ones. Because the RxMx uses vactrol low pass gates, there's a particularly pleasing sound as the RxMx scans through the bands.
