Later in the day, Shadow flew in with a stick and Jackie followed close behind. They both seemed to enjoy this new stick, moving it together and whittling the bark off with their beaks. Jackie was more focused on work, while Shadow seemed more interested in giving playful love nips, body bumps and kisses! Jackie eventually gave in and they bonded even more before leaving together for the night.
The next day they spent over two hours together in the nest and their daily stick count was four. Two sticks had lots of little branches full of tiny twigs and pine needles. Earlier, while she was working alone, Jackie placed one. When Shadow came by, he yanked it up, apparently finding a better spot for it. Shadow then kicked some sticks out from under him and gave a go at testing the bowl but… ouch! No… not ready yet!
On Friday, Jackie brought a clump of wet fluff, likely some grasses from the lakeshore and spread it out to dry. A few hours later, she came in with a fish and gobbled it down. The tail followed in one big gulp! She kneeled and attempted to lay down but appeared too stuffed full of fish, so she waited, laying down on her sunset visit instead. Fiona may have overheard her neighbors saying there was a fish delivery earlier upstairs, so she came by overnight looking for snacks.
On Saturday, both visited in the late afternoon, each bringing a new stick. Shadow was seen snapping his stick off the SDS, one of their favorite snag trees. He arrived at the nest with it in his beak and Jackie helped place it. They enjoyed the view, a beautiful pink sunset reflecting off the lake, before heading to the Roost Tree.
Jackie spent nearly three hours on Sunday perched on the front porch observing the neighborhood and today they both came in late tonight for a very short visit. Shadow brought a stick and they did some nest work. Jackie laid down for a minute then they followed each other out to the Roost Tree.
Thank you for being here with us as we follow Jackie and Shadow's journey. Happy 2025!🎉

PS. Even though the Bald Eagle has been on the Great Seal of the US, it was not officially our National Bird until Dec 24, 2024. Jackie and Shadow are now official!
