The Kawah Ijen Volcano is world famous for its blue flames and sulfur mining. It is located on Eastern Java, Indonesia. The blue flames are caused by sulfur gases burning in the atmosphere with electric blue light visible at night. The gasses condense on the surface into sulfur which is manually removed and carried away by the miners. The crater lake of the volcano is one kilometer wide and is the world's largest highly acidic lake (0.5 pH).
