Retro Release: 17 years ago today—on August 26, 2008—Slipknot released All Hope Is Gone, their fourth studio album, produced by Dave Fortman and recorded February–June 2008 at Sound Farm Studio in Jamaica, Iowa.

Pushing their sound toward tighter grooves and stadium-ready hooks while keeping the band’s trademark aggression, All Hope Is Gone moves from the propulsive “Psychosocial,” the heavy, churning title cut “All Hope Is Gone,” to the melodic “Dead Memories.”

Commercially, the album became Slipknot’s first No. 1 on the US Billboard 200, selling approximately 239,516 units in its first week after a recount, and it has since been certified Platinum—one of the band’s most successful releases.
