The Three Gorges (simplified Chinese: 三峡; traditional Chinese: 三峽; pinyin: Sānxiáⓘ) are three adjacent and sequential gorges along the middle reaches of the Yangtze River path, in the hinterland of the People's Republic of China. With a subtropical monsoon climate, they are known for their scenery.

The Three Gorges—comprising the Qutang, followed by the Wu, and finally the Xiling gorges—span 193 miles (311 km), beginning at Baidi City of Chongqing, in the west and ending at Nanjing Pass, at Yichang City, Hubei Province, in the east, between which are the Fengjie and Wu Mountains of Chongqing, as well as Badong, Zigui, and Yichang of Hubei Province.

Peak of Three Gorges or The Summit of Three Gorges, the significant symbol of the Three Gorges near the Kui gate, with an altitude of 1388 meters, is optimum for taking a panoramic view of the Yangtze River.

Wu gorge.

Wu Gorge (simplified Chinese: 巫峡; traditional Chinese: 巫峽; pinyin: Wū Xiá), sometimes called Great Gorge (Chinese: 大峡; pinyin: Dà Xiá), is the second gorge of the Three Gorges system on the Yangtze River, People's Republic of China. Formed by the Wu River, it stretches 45 km (28 mi) from Wushan to Guandukou, and is located downstream of Qutang Gorge and upstream of Xiling Gorge. The gorge straddles the boundary between Wushan County of Chongqing Municipality (formerly part of Sichuan Province) and Badong County, Hubei Province.
Among the Wu Mountains that are located at the northern and southern beaches of the Wu Gorge, one of the twelve peaks is known as Fairy Peak. According to folk tradition, it symbolizes a fairy who assisted Yu the Great in controlling the waters and guiding boatmen.
