The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has announced harsh measures against foreign airlines involved in a rising trend of deporting Nigerian passengers mid-journey due to visa or travel restrictions. The NCAA warned that it will suspend, OK, and implement other regulatory actions against airlines that sell tickets but fail to ensure seamless travel for passengers, leaving them stranded or deported in transit.
This announcement follows numerous complaints from travellers, highlighting the emotional trauma and inconvenience caused by these actions, which also tarnish the image of Nigeria’s aviation sector. Airlines must comply with the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations 2023, which mandate proper passenger screening and accurate travel documentation information.
Olumide Ohunayo, General Secretary of the Aviation Safety Round Table Initiative, discusses the root cause of this issue, airlines' responsibilities in preventing such incidents, and the importance of enforcing passenger rights.
