‘Kaya Nation’ was track number 7 on ‘Krazy Rodeo’. It was written and recorded by my brother Simon and I, as rainBOWstory in 2002. You can hear our experimentation with fx within Cakewalk, the DAW we were using. We had used hardware guitar pedals prior to this, but the program opened the door to a wide range of ways to alter our sound.
Lyrically ‘Kaya Nation’ touches upon the drug war and the outlawing of marijuana. It is no secret that the illegal classification of marijuana was a way to arrest and harass people who did not fit the status quo. The illegalization of cannabis was done with roots in racism and fear of uprising in many countries around the world, the USA included. Thankfully the tide is slowly turning and progress is being made in reversing those oppressive laws. We still have a long way to go, but at least we are making progress in the right direction. .
