Anemoia is a feeling of nostalgia for a time one has never known. Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows describes it as a poignant longing for a past that is not one's own, a past one has only experienced through media, stories, or imagination. This feeling often arises from exposure to old photographs, movies, music, or stories that evoke a sense of a romanticized or idealized past. Someone might feel anemoia for the 1980's punk/ goth scene, even though they were born in the late 20th century, or for the aesthetic of 2000's boy groups/ girl groups/ emo or pop punk bands being everyone's most talked about topic, and magazines displaying gerard way's faces or pete wentz guyliner tutorial, even though they've never felt the vibe irl.
