Album: Spanish Medieval Music
Video: Cantigas de Santa María, XIII secolo
•
New York Pro Musica was a music ensemble specialized in Medieval and Renaissance music and based in New York City. It was founded in 1952 by Noah Greenberg, a choral director, and Bernard Krainis, a recorder player. Initially the name of the ensemble was Pro Musica Antiqua.
Recently I've upload their wonderful version of "The Play of Daniel" recorded in 1958 () which has since become a popular liturgical drama among early music groups.
This record is from 1960 and is about the Spanish music of the middle ages. The album includes twelve Cantigas de Santa Maria, a Liturgy from the XII century of Santiago de Compostela and a Mass in Honor of The Blessed Virgin Mary from the XIV century.
About the video: nothing would have been more suitable than the stupendous miniatures of the musicians depicted in the manuscript containing the Cantigas de Santa Maria!
I wish you happy listening!
