It's become a very rare sight past few decades. The woman was on a quest to document abandoned villages with her phone when she noticed a figure in the background. It turns out to be an old man collecting fire woods.
She offered to help but the old man was stubborn, saying he could do it himself and although he had to take a break multiple times, he did finally managed to get the logs back.
He invited the woman inside his home. He's 86 years old this year and very hard of hearing so the woman had to shout most of the time for him to hear her.
He poured her a cup of tea but the woman declined so the man went to his closet and dug out two oranges which are rare treats. He gladly share with the visitor.
The old man said he has 5 children, 3 girls and 2 boys, all of whom have moved to the city. His entire family has left him behind because he refused to move. There are others like him, around 8 of them all above the age of 80 still living in the village. To them, these houses hold too many memories and they couldn't bare to leave.
The old man said that if he isn't here, the roof would leak and collapse. He couldn't let it happen to his beloved house. The whole world has moved on to 2025 but they are still hoping to hold on to the past a bit longer. To them, this was perhaps still 1965 even though the rest of the world refused to play along.
This is the reality of getting old, everything you once knew could change and when they are gone, everything is truly gone. Just like what happened to countless other generations before. Everything they once knew and loved, gone. Let's hope this village will never be forgotten.
