Any Blues player worth their salt has a collection of turnarounds at their beckon call. BUT...
Do your turnarounds sound lick everyone else's? You know the ones...
The ones with the chromatic descending lines and obvious move to the V chord at the very end? Yeah, those!
While the classic turnarounds are great (I personally love them and use them all the time) sometimes you need to go in a different direction. Take the listener to a new place.
That's where today's lesson will come in handy. In the video, we take the last 2 bars of a 12 bar blues progression in A and replace the would-be predictable turnaround with a lick that hints at the chords and creates a different vibe.
Spend some time on the rhythm of this lick, the devil is in the details but once you pull it off, you'll be glad you put in the time.
Good luck and...
Play On!
