John Hartman was born on March 18, 1950, in Falls Church, Virginia, United States.
Career: Was a co-founder and first drummer for The Doobie Brothers. He was initially the sole drummer, but the band later switched to a two-drummer format. He played on all of the band's major hits of the 1970s. He left the band in 1979, but returned for brief periods to tour and record in the 1980s and 1990s.
In 2020, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with the rest of the band.

Death: Died on December 29, 2021, at the age of 71. His death was later announced in September 2022.

Discography: Participated in the recording of many albums by The Doobie Brothers, including Minute by Minute (1978) and Cycles (1989).
