Trying digital pianos in three different stores in one day and settling on this one. It would be cool to own one if I practiced playing licks and cliches all day. In truth I do not. Even when I was signed to a prestigious jazz label my body of work was created through several means including dreams sequences, meditations and, conventional compositional methods. Everything that I play on piano happens because of what has been absorbed from mental practice as well as the study of counterpoint, music theory and convention, and both musical and extra-musical experiences for a very long time now. Though I at one time copied various stylist elements of several types of instrumentalists, after hearing Phineas Newborn Jr. I knew i had to sound like myself more than anything. Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms have all been influenced by the masters before them yet they managed to come into their own way before they moved on to the next realm. Music for me is a conscious stream of creativity. This stream of consciousness inspires the human condition in ways that I cannot discuss in this short post, however they do exist.This is the blues that carries me through; the fuel that powers me through the mediocrity of preparation into total creativity...freedom of thought-my own unique thoughts--as fluid as speech.
