The Gateway of India in Mumbai was built to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to India in 1911. It was designed by the British architect George Wittet in a blend of Hindu and Muslim architectural styles. The monument stands 26 meters tall and was completed in 1924.

Historically, the Gateway also marks the departure point of the last British troops from India in 1948, symbolizing the end of British colonial rule. Today, it is one of Mumbai’s most iconic landmarks and a popular tourist attraction.
