Members of different Bangladesh Film Development Corporation-based organisations on Sunday demanded the removal of BFDC managing director Nuzhat Yeasmin, burned her effigy and criticised her and the chief election commissioner Pirzada Shahidul Harun at a protest programme on the BFDC premises for not allowing them entry into the BFDC during the Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association elections on January 28.
Bangladesh Film Directors’ Association president Sohanur Rahman Sohan said, ‘The filmmakers, producers, technicians and others associated with different BFDC-based organisations were not allowed entry to the BFDC on the polling day. We requested access for at least 200 selected people but our request was denied. I was told that this is the instruction of the home minister but he informed us that he had not given such instruction. He told the authorities concerned to ensure a fair election.’
The BFDC managing director Nuzhat Yeasmin said, ‘They made a shortlist with names of individuals but they should have prepared it earlier. Sohanur Rahman Sohan, who is speaking at at the protests, is a member of the election Appeal Board. He could have raised the issue and solved it easily to allow people they thought were necessary to improve the environment of the elections.’
