Giant Autoclave: World’s Largest Gold Extractor | Mega Transports | FD Engineering

Titans of Transport - Moving the World's Heaviest Objects:
A unique mega transport made of steel and titanium with a special purpose: to extract tons of gold. This so-called autoclave is the biggest of its kind. Its weight: over one thousand tons. At seven and a half metres in diameter, it is as high as a house. And at fifty-one metres in length, it is as long as four trucks lined up one behind the other.

This huge machine is being transported half way around the world. The starting point: Geel in Belgium. From the departure point, the journey follows roads and rivers to Antwerp. From there, a heavy-lift cargo ship will take the autoclave to the easternmost seaport in Russia. The route then follows the river Armur to the gold plant. A total of twenty-five thousand kilometres. On its journey there, it must contend with motorways and bridges, some of them so low that the clearance will be just a few centimeters. The danger of getting stuck underneath is part of the journey. For a multi-million dollar machine filled with sensitive technology an absolute No-Go. And what makes the transport even more challenging: for all involved, it is a race against time. Weather conditions in Russia means transport is possible only during a few weeks each year. The river level is otherwise too high. If the team misses the window, they will have to wait a whole year until they can finally reach the destination. And this year of all years, the water level is higher than ever. Will the team successfully battle against this once-in-a-century flood?
