The weirdest thing about this track is that it's highly influenced by Richie Hawtin's M-nus label. A lot of tracks on M-nus have a 16 step rolling techno drum pattern that continues throughout the track. My thought was - "What if you did a really 808 deep Dirtybird track with this same M-nus techno drum roll technique?" Right around the same time Christian Martin had delivered me this demo with the most beautiful chord progression. So i decided to take this rolling techno drum roll - add in the Christian Martin chords - AND add in the 808 Dirtybird vibe. The result is Groundhog Day. I'm not sure how we came up with the title but I'm sure Christian has some hilarious reason why we called it that. He is one of the sharpest, wittiest, most sarcastically funny people I know!
