The 3.0 T engine, found in late model Audi S4, S5, SQ5 and even Porsche models, is a 90 degree V6. The turbocharger is situated in between the V bank, making it a "hot V", where the exhaust flows down the middle instead of off to the sides.

This engine primarily failed due to roller rocker bearings disintegrating, causing ticking sounds and then eventually coming apart ruining the engine if not caught early enough. While a stout engine in terms of performance, alot of effort was put into the engineering, design and manufacturing of this engine into a very small space, making service very difficult and expensive.

This engine has variable valve lift, in addition to variable valve timing with the main timing chains located at the back of the engine, with a separate chain at the front for the variable oil pump. Due to its 90 degree design, it has a balance shaft situated down the middle. A variable oil cooler with its own thermostat resides along the top, underneath the hot turbo charger. The use of plastics are plentiful in the cooling system and accessory drive, which degrade what could have been a more reliable engine.
