The "Playing the Melody" lesson, is a music first approach to understanding melody and composition on the drums. Utilizing the "long tones" of the brushes, I describe my approach to learning the "full note" sustains of a piece of music. The understanding and execution of the true melodic rhythms and note sustains, is a much deeper way of performing and connecting to the composition. This third lesson of the brush series, focuses in on these skills and concepts of playing the full musical composition on the drums. This lesson will change the way you hear and play music, deepening the "musical" aspects of your playing.
We will cover:
Proper "long" brush strokes and tones
Understanding the full melodic structure of a composition
Playing the composition and creating a pulse
Brush techniques and Lateral strokes
Building brush colors and articulations
Deepening your compositional approach and understanding on the drums
