Whole day tour of Olkhon Island.
After a lovely bfast at Baikal View Hotel in Khuzhir we set off in 3 UAZ military vehicles . Fuest stop was to view a few fledgling ice scuptures near the Shamanka Rock. Next stopped at Lion Rock for sokui touch n go.
Next was a spectacular experience at Kharantsy Island where we accessed ice caves and took great photos from inside the caves.
Had to move on to a toilet stop at a singular wooden hut with pit latrines.
Time for lunch.
At Cape Sagan Khusun or 3 Brothers Rock we explored the magnificent ice formations while the drivers cooked umul soup.
Sharp arrowlike icicles formed by the wind; hummocks thrown onto ridges by the Cape and a tiny ice cave reached by gingerly climbing over the sokui.
Lunch was fun with lots of food n drinks. Our guide cooked noodles too.
A tent was set up as a portable toilet_ most ingenious.
Saw some brave cyclists cycling at -14degC.
After lunch we pushed on to the northernmost point of Olkhon Island_ Caoe Khoboy.
There were more shards of hummocks here. We climbed over a vast slippery ridge of smashed up ice blocks to a cave_ nice photos here.
Then had sparkling wine with caviar and chocolates_ what a surprise treat.
Finally on the way back we stopped at Kharantsy island again for photos under setting sun lightning.
Saw the sunset at Cape Burkhan overlooking Shamanka Rock. There were 13 poles covered with colorful ribbons honoring the 13 dieties of this island.
Went back to Baikal View Hotel to have dinner at the hotel.
