Surge is a fun and very challenging drum set duo inspired by Polynesian Drumming. The beginning and end are based on Tahitian and Cook Island drumming where the players play opposite rhythms that work together to create a stream of interlocking sixteenth notes. The players have extreme precision locking in the inner beats. The middle section of the piece is based on Samoan Fire Knife Spinning Drumming. Throughout the piece you will also hear high hats and bass drums that are split between the two players as well.
