Module 2 of the soloing Lab discusses the ability to form a solo into a flowing "thought". Many times, a solo can start in one direction and through a loss of focus, move into a confused state. I play and discuss how to develop a solo from beginning to end. Taking the listener on an organized "journey" through your solo connects the audience (and band) to your solo in a deeper way. My approach of "intentional Improvisation" is discussed: this is key to a confident and "deliberate" sounding solos.
We will discuss:
Developing a focused solo
Learning to build a solo performance
Russ' "Intentional Improvisation" approach
Creating a solo "Arc"
Understanding the path and direction of your solos
Creating a drumming "Journey" with your solos
