Interestingly, oysters were once a popular snack at the theater, especially in the 1600s. In fact, archaeologists discovered layers of discarded oyster shells at Shakespeare's Globe Theater. This trend continued all the way through vaudeville theater in the 1910s until they were replaced by popcorn during the Great Depression.
