When Beck was in Seattle for the Bumbershoot Festival in 2008, a local radio station, The End, held a contest. People could submit a short biography, and the winner would get a song written about them.
The winner was Brandon Nevins of Seattle. This was his bio:
“Inventor of the rocket ship, designer of planet Earth, editor for the Holy Bible, coolest guy since the Abominable Snowman. I'm a realistic person, I never tell a lie, met up with Superman and spit him in the eye. Funny, loud, and all around amazing”.
Beck called the track “an odyssey”, and that his “eight albums (sic) have led up to this song”. The recording was divided into six parts on the website, however, the full version was given to Brandon, and he kindly decided to share it with the rest of us mere mortals. Thanks Brandon!
