The 1960s British blues scene gave rise to some of the most legendary guitarists of all time, including Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, and Keith Richards. However, one musician who is often overlooked is Peter Green, the founding member of Fleetwood Mac.

Like many of his peers, Green drew heavy inspiration from blues greats such as B.B. King, Albert King, and Freddie King, incorporating their signature styles into his early playing. His admiration for B.B. King is particularly evident in his solo on Fleetwood Mac’s “Need Your Love So Bad,” which showcases classic B.B.-influenced phrasing and licks.

Even B.B. King himself recognized Green’s talent, famously saying, “Peter Green is the only guitarist whose playing gives me the cold sweats. He had the sweetest tone I’ve ever heard.”
