Why the End Update is taking so long

The End Update is a Minecraft update that nearly all players want. The only problem is that we don't know when it'll happen, or if it'll happen. Why hasn't Mojang released a new overhaul yet for the End Dimension? They did it for the Nether, so why not the End?
