My 21-year-old daughter, who is studying in Ann Arbor, Michigan, was in a serious car accident. Her car was completely wrecked and had to be scrapped. Fortunately, she didn’t sustain any serious injuries, just some pain where her cheek hit the airbag. My husband and I quickly booked plane tickets and flew to Ann Arbor. When we arrived, it was snowing, and the winter felt terribly harsh for someone used to California’s climate.
