‘He understands them’: Donald Trump knows how to ‘appeal to his base’

Former US president Donald Trump’s political instincts are “really honed”, says Fitzpatrick and Co Advisory Special Counsel Bruce Hawker.

His remarks come after Mr Trump continued to play to the crowd, pumping his fist in the air after he survived a failed assassination attempt at his Pennsylvania rally on Sunday.

“That’s always been something we’ve known about Donald Trump – he can appeal to his base every time,” Mr Hawker told Sky News Australia.

“He understands them well and he understands what is expected of him.”
