- Here is a clip from the Friends in Concert performance from the early eighties. First you get a little of them singing Straight Shooter, and giving John's preference for the needle it's a truly fitting song. Then we have the interview were Mackenzie tells of how she and her dad wrote a love song together (?) Now, given light on recent developments between Mackenzie and her dad, this is truly a revelation on it's own. She then launches into the love song...Despite the illness, the Mamas and the Papas were a great group, and it's nice to see Denny and Elaine "Spanky" McFarlane (filling in for the late Cass Elliot). The Association also played on this show , and the full performance video also includes Gary Pucket and the Turtles (featuring Flo and Eddie). You can get a copy right here:
