When we filmed Savanna & Kris’s wedding at The Homestead in Oak Glen, we knew their story deserved a look and feel as raw and real as their journey together.
To capture that vintage, emotional aesthetic, we used two of our favorite techniques:
1. Super 8mm film – Real film, not just an overlay. We mixed authentic Super 8 footage into their highlight film to reflect the decades of history they’ve lived through — from wild beginnings to raising a beautiful family. The flicker and texture of Super 8 matched the grit and heart of their love story perfectly.
2. Nylon lens diffusion – For certain HD shots, we strapped a nylon stocking over the lens to give it a dreamy, softened glow. It’s a subtle trick that helped echo the emotional weight of the day — especially during moments like Savanna’s first look with her grandma, or their last dance under the stars.
These aren’t just aesthetic choices — they’re emotional tools. They helped us craft a film that didn’t just document their day, but felt like their life: beautifully imperfect, rich with memory, and full of soul.
Which technique do you think we used in these shots? Let us know in the comments below!
