On an adventure as remote as our trip down the Denali Highway in Alaska, being self-reliant isn't just a good idea—it's a necessity. These traction boards are your get-out-of-jail-free card when you get into trouble. If I slide off the road or find myself in deep mud, snow, or sand, I can simply wedge these under my tires. The aggressive cleats grip the tire tread and the terrain underneath, providing the critical traction needed to get my heavy Ford E350 van unstuck and back on the trail.
As I mention in the video, this simple piece of gear has already saved me once during a tough Alaskan winter situation, preventing a long and potentially dangerous wait for help. Whether you're in a 4x4 van, a Jeep, or a truck, investing in a quality set of recovery boards is one of the smartest decisions you can make before heading into the backcountry.
This is just one of the many tips and adventures from my complete journey exploring the legendary Denali Highway. Make sure to SUBSCRIBE to Living My Alaska to follow the rest of the series!
