On April 8, 2008, a late-night flu run turned into a full-blown mystery when 22-year-old Jamie Fraley told a friend a “male friend” was driving her back to the ER, and vanished. Her purse, wallet, keys, and even her dog were left safe inside her locked apartment, but her phone was ditched a mile away. Investigators quickly zeroed in on the helpful next-door neighbor: Ricky Simonds Sr., Jamie’s future father-in-law, a convicted strangler who’d been hovering around the sick young woman all night.
Detectives could never prove Ricky’s involvement. With no body, no confession, and no other viable suspect, the case remains unsolved sixteen years later. Did Jamie’s would-be father-in-law kidnap her, or is another secret lurking in Gastonia?
