You have to stop answering the question.
Rumination and worrying can trap you in an endless cycle of anxiety. But you don’t have to stay stuck.
— Recognize the Patterns: Identify what triggers your rumination and worry.
— Separate a Thought from Thinking: Understand the difference between random thoughts and effortful thinking. They are two distinct processes. A thought happens within a second - it is momentary and fleeting. The thinkING is you analyzing and drawing attention to the thought which is a purposeful and effortful process and therefore in your control.
— Identify the Question: What are you seeking certainty about?
— Refuse to Answer: Treat intrusive thoughts like a spam caller—don’t pick up. This is where you’ll have to build skills like tolerating uncertainty, staying consistent, discipline, and seeing OCD / anxiety as “the doubt disorder” and nothing else of importance.
