This time, she saw him trying to give watermelon slices to tourists but everyone turned him down. Upon seeing her, he was so happy.
He immediately took out a fresh watermelon from the fridge and cut it up to her and her friends. The watermelon was sweet and delicious and she asked him why he doesn't sell them. That's when she saw his battered hands and tired face. It's been hard to make any sales and if they don't eat the watermelon it would go bad.
He also kept stuffing things in her hands. A very generous man. He wanted her to take them without any payment. But at the end, the woman ended up stuffing a couple hundred dollars into his pocket. Far exceeded the stuff he had tried to give her.
He invited them to his home. They have 3 kids. The youngest is 14 years old. Last year, he had a surgery and blew through their savings. Now, they are hoping the grape field would do well. Last year, they made only $20k from the grape field. The weather was unbearably hot but he's used to it. It's really not an easy job at all.
The woman promised to come back when the grapes are ready for harvest couple months later. This old man and his family just really needed help. It's amazing to see so much compassion from someone who share such different background. The old man and his family seem to come from a diverse part of the country where the people are ethnically different.
