We take a look inside the furnace control room. Here, the loading of charge materials is managed by computer. The programmed commands are sent to the storage area, where daily bins for cast iron and steel scrap, pig iron, coke, fluxes, and various additives are located. These materials are loaded into a charging cart with a scale. All parameters specified in the computer are checked, and then the cart dumps the contents into the skip.
At KZO, melting takes place in two shaft furnaces, known as cupolas. Their output is 8 tons per hour, and the temperature they achieve through coke combustion exceeds 1500 degrees Celsius. The charge enters the furnace through a charging window located at the top. Melting occurs in the hearth, equipped with tuyeres that supply hot air enriched with oxygen.
The molten iron flows through a tapping trough into a ladle, from which it is distributed to all casting lines. This is done using a cart with a turntable.
