• It is one of the earliest printed works of music for the lute — a milestone in the history of modern music printing.

• “Piva” (or “Pive”) is a fast, rhythmic dance that was popular in northern Italy during the 15th and 16th centuries.
• It was often played on bagpipes (called piva in Italian) — hence the name — but lute versions like Dalza’s were adapted for solo or small ensemble performance.
