You are NOT "so OCD."
There are a million things you can say to describe yourself other than, "I'm so OCD."
We know you're not doing this intentionally. But it's important to understand that saying things like this trivializes the experiences of those living with OCD. Individuals who have OCD can't function sometimes, or they may not be able to take care of their families.
So, what are some alternatives? Here are a few suggestions:
"I just have preferences."
"Sometimes, I'm a little picky."
"I struggle with perfectionism."
"I'm feeling a little inflexible."
Sometimes, we say things that we don't realize could be potentially harmful for those living with a diagnosis.
Even if you've heard people say, "I'm so OCD," or "He's so bipolar," or "I'm so ADD or ADHD," it's still not okay to use these phrases, especially when you don't have those diagnoses.
Hence, to avoid trivializing or diminishing the experiences of those living with these diagnoses, it's best to use descriptions that avoid co-opting their experiences.
That's our gentle PSA! Thank you for listening!!
